Days Till Election

Meet Laura

Hello La Porte! My name is Laura Konieczny, and I am running for re-election as your 5th Ward representative on the City Council. With my extensive experience in management and my passion for serving our community, I have worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for La Porte residents.

As a City Council member, I have, and will continue to prioritize public safety, recognizing that the men and women who serve and protect our communities must have the tools, training, and resources necessary to do their jobs effectively. Additionally, I am focused on improving the city’s infrastructure, ensuring that La Porte’s roads, bridges, and water systems are safe and reliable. As a realtor, I know how important it is for residents to have access to safe and affordable living in order for our community to thrive. I will continue to work to attract housing options for all residents. I have been a vocal advocate for addressing mental health and opioid addiction, recognizing the devastating toll these issues can take on individuals, families, and communities. With my strong record of public service and my commitment to the well-being of La Porte residents, I ask for your vote this election season.

Q&A

I believe my 20+ years of managerial and leadership experience in both the private & public sectors have provided me with a diverse skillset necessary to be a competent and effective Councilwoman. Prudent spending practices, data analysis, critical thinking, working within a balanced budget, effective communication, being an active listener, not being afraid to engage in tough conversations, being open to opposing viewpoints along with my positive discontent mindset (meaning we can always be better/do better) are just a few qualifications that I possess. Both my personal and professional life is driven by honesty, transparency and integrity. My past 2.5 years as Councilwoman for Ward 5 has provided me with a strong foundation as an elected official. We have made great progress during my tenure and the forward momentum drives my passion to help the City of La Porte be the best place to work, live and raise our youth. I am a graduate of IU Bloomington and have served on many local boards

1. Improving Infrastructure 2. Public Safety – ensuring our first responders have the tools, training and resources necessary to serve and protect 3. Attracting housing options for all

I believe what differentiates me from other candidates is my vested interest in the community while raising my two young children and caring for my aging Mom. As a parent and active member of City Council, I’m passionate about improving the lives of those around me. I’m not someone who just shows up; I put in the work to make sure positive change happens. Additionally, my different perspective brings an invaluable set of ideas to the table that can help bridge any generational and socioeconomic gaps while keeping an eye towards progress.

accomplishments

As your current City Council representative, I have committed myself to being your voice. I will continue to bring forth the ideas and change you, as residents, wish to see. I am excited to continue working on making our parks more accessible to the people of La Porte. The Chessie Trail is a great start, but I am excited to see the Chessie Two, Clear Lake Loop, and Slicer Highway come to life. Soon the Kesling Campus, including the park and all it has to offer, will be connected to the high school via a walking path and sidewalks along “A” Street.

Our community deserves great public safety. With recent salary increases for police and fire, along with additional finances allocated toward new tools, equipment and training, our public safety officials are becoming more prepared every day. I will continue to work to bring our residents the public safety they deserve.
